Hi all,
I’ve been an enthusiastic iPad Mini user for little more than a year and am now debating whether to start using an iPhone as well. After all, I’m sure that it will turn out really handy once I’ve got it. However, as for the switching procedure, I was wondering how the process of transferring the backup I have on the iPad Mini to the new iPhone really works. A friend of mine once told me that if you entered the Apple ID and password you had used with another Apple device before, all the apps you had on the iPad that were also available for the iPhone would automatically be installed onto the iPhone. Did you have similar experiences when switching from one to another Apple device? Did the other device recognise and install the backup without any problems in terms of compatibility? And finally, how can I be sure that all the apps I bought in the app store are saved onto my ICloud? Is there a way to check what the respective backups look like and what they actually include? I’ve never quite understood how the ICloud works and have thus never trusted the concept. So for example, I haven’t set the ICloud to save my contacts and emails, as you can never be absolutely sure how Apple will treat such sensitive data. What’s your take on this?
Many thanks for your two cents in advance.
Have a nice weekend everyone.
Back your first device up with iTunes, but to the cloud and to the computer.
If you don’t trust your contacts there, remove them after you make a copy to your Windows address book, but there safe.
When you have everything, sign on with your new device, and all will come to you.
The easy way if you don’t know how to do any of what I suggest is to take your first device in to the Apple store and pick up the iPhone there.
The rep will do all this for you.
To post 1. As long as you are backing up all your content to icloude, when you got your new apple iDevice, and when you done some initial set up, it will ask you if you want to restore your setting from previous content. Choose yes, then it will promp you with different restore points from different devices. For example, for me, it promp me to choose to restore from my iphone 5, iphone4, ipad mini, ipad 4th gen, or ipod. When i select on one of them, it will do the rest for you. That is the most simplest, easiest, troubleless fastest way to do it all. However, when you have say, ipad and an iphone, just remember not all the apps available on your ipad will be transfer over to your iphone. Some pps are specific for ipad use only therefore, it won't be transfer over to the iphone. But, by saying that, if say, you have Skype for iPad, on your ipad, it will install Skype for iPhone for you on your iphone authomaticly. It will look for the same apps for you on the iphone/ipad, if the app is available only for the pad or the phone.
As far as all your purchases is concern, all your previous, presents, and future purchases (unless apple change this in the future) is all tied to your itunes account. Anything that you have purchase on your itunes account, regardless either its books, music, apps, movies, you name it, you can reinstall it for no extra cost, and it will store under your apps store; purchases. for books and that, it will store on your ibooks; purchases, and same it goes with other apple apps itself.
ICloud is one of the safest, easiest, fastest, way to use. Itunes on the computer is great if you really have $1,000,000,000 and worry that someone will get to it. With iTunes on the computer backup, you can choose incripted backup. In this case, no one can get to it at all. But for me, i think for my day to day task and stuff, icloud backup is good enough for me. Its instent, and speedy too.
Hope this help
